What is Glass Corrosion?

For the purposes of a window cleaner, glass corrosion is basically any type of staining or damage to window or piece of glass caused by exposure to the elements.

The image to your left is a perfect example of a corroded window. This window’s corrosion is the result of years of exposure to hard

water from the building's sprinkler system.

The minerals in the water have bonded to the surface of the glass and overtime have actually etched the surface of the glass making it feel rough and pitted.

Pictured to the right you can see a close up of the mineral deposits that have built up on the gass due to neglect.

There are many different types of glass corrosion, but the most common types of corrosion that window cleaners encounter are:

	Hard Water Stains

Stains like these are very common on both residential and commercial buildings and standard window cleaning methods can do nothing to remove them.

	Replacement – Corrosion and staining is actually very damaging to the glass and if left unchecked the corrosion will eventually get so bad that the glass must be replaced. Glass Replacement is a very expensive decision.
