Window Cleaning Question - Will The Bad Economy Jepoardize My New Window Cleaning Business
November 26th, 2007 Posted in Window Cleaning Q & AWindow Cleaning Q & A:
Question: I am very interested in starting a window cleaning business here in southeast Pennsylvania. I want to jump to full time right away, because I hate my job so much. I have savings to last 6 months until this business takes off. Because of the way the economy seems to be headed, do you still feel that this is a good business to get into? Also, would you start full time, or build the business part time? Thanks for your help.
Answer:I can totally understand your dislike for your your current job. I found out a long time ago that I am a great ‘worker’, but a terrible ‘employee’. Working for yourself is the only way to go. Also way to go on planning in advance and having enough money in savings before you quit your job. however jumping into a window cleaning business full time right from the get go can fairly difficult, especially with winter and the slow season fast approaching.

As far as the economy goes in relation to owning your own window cleaning business - yes the economy is bad/failing, but events and timing will never be absolutely perfect for starting your business. In terms of effects on your business, you may see a slight TEMPORARY decrease is business from your lower income clients, but you will see almost no change from your middle class and higher clients. And if for some reason in your area you do notice a change, then you just need to shift your marketing efforts to target the high/wealthy income customers and comercial clients.
My advice - Start your business now! I do not believe in waiting until the perfect time, as that perfect time will never appear. I do recommend however that you start your business part time right now and work it around your existing jobs schedule And throw that 6mos of savings into an interest bearing account and hold onto it. Work hard on getting your name out there and keeping all of your available work hours booked up while at the same time perfecting your window cleaning skills and increasing your speed and efficency. This will pay off big when spring rolls around and you are ready to jump into window cleaning full time.
As spring cleanings start to give way into full blown summer cleaning frenzy you can quit your job if you still feel the need and focus on your window cleaning business full time. Before you quit your job, take some time to plan out exactly what your short term and medium term income goals are for your new full time business, then break those goals down into per average jobs per day/week/month numbers to give you a perspective of what you need to achomplish to meet those goals. Also you will want to plan out your marketing strategy for the year that you will use to help you achieve your income goals.
Hopefully this will help you make the right decision for you in regards to starting your own window cleaning business.
