Secret to window cleaning business success

As you know I encourage the window cleaning success readers to send me their questions and concerns about the window cleaning industry and I must say that two of the most frequent questions I receive is “how did you grow your business so quickly?” and “what is your secret?”. And it’s because of these questions that I am writing this today…

I have decided to reveal my “Secret to Success” to the world.

Are you ready for it?

My super secret weapon to growing my window cleaning business from zero dollars to over $87,000 in one year can be explained in 5 simple words:

Massive Action Equals Massive Income.

That’s it. Not a very impressive secret is it?

In fact, many people feel let down after I share this so called “secret” with them. Why? Because they are expecting some super high tech marketing campaign or an ultra fancy sales pitch and instead I give them five words.

While advanced marketing strategies and effective sales pitches have their place, they are simple not necessary to build a wildly successful window cleaning business. All that is needed is that you understand the meaning and opportunity hidden in these five special words and then act upon it.

So let’s dive right into the meat of the issue. What does Massive Action Equals Massive Income mean to your business?

The first thing you need to understand is that like all businesses, success in the window cleaning business is a numbers game. By which I mean, offer your service to enough people and your business will thrive. Expose it to only a few and watch it stagnate and die.

While this may sound like pretty basic stuff, you have in fact been given the secret of the most successful businesses in the world.

Once I understood the power of this concept and applied it to my business, my income skyrocketed. Let me show you how it can do the same for you.

Lets start with massive action, and by massive action I mean that you follow a consistent plan of attack for a set number of days to achieve a desired result and during this time you are pushing as hard as you possibly can.

You then, at the end of this plan, take a look at what you’ve achieved, tweak it for better success and then repeat the cycle. Is this starting to make sense?

Let me give you a solid example which also happens to be the same method I followed to achieve success with my window cleaning business.

In this example the idea is to grow your window cleaning business as fast as possible so we will take massive action for a solid month and see where we end up.

In order for your business to succeed, you need customers; therefore we will take massive action to attract more paying customers to your business.

I started out with flyer marketing because it is a cost effective way to reach large numbers of prospects very quickly and it works very well with a window cleaning service.

So for the next four weeks we are going to blanket the residential neighborhoods in your town with flyers. Each week we will distribute 1500 flyers, which breaks down to 250 flyers a day for six days. This may sound like a lot and it is (massive action remember?) but considering you can easily pass out 200 flyers in one to two hours in an average residential neighborhood, you are looking at maybe 12 hours of flyering per week.

If you are thinking that there is no way you can put in this much work, don’t despair, it may be a lot of work at first, but after your first month of massive action, you will easily be able to afford to pay someone else to handle your flyer distribution while you are free to focus on cleaning windows.

Back to our example, after four weeks of distributing flyers, you will have passed out 6000 flyers. For arguments sake, let’s say your flyers were terribly designed and only converted at 1%.That means that 60 people will contact you for an estimate. Of those, let’s be conservative again and say only 30% of the 60 become customers. That still means that you gained 18 brand new paying customers this month.

Before I go on, I want to point out that the above conversion rates are extremely conservative. Most of my flyers convert between 6% - 10% and I also turn at least 70% to 80% of the people who request estimates into paying customers. If you numbers are way below this, then you are doing something wrong.

Continuing on, as a result of your massive action you gained 18 new residential customers and with the average residential house costing between $200 and $250 for basic window cleaning, this means that on the low end you just made and additional $3600 in one month. Not to shabby huh?

Also even after you subtract your material cost of producing the flyer (my flyers cost around $0.03 each) you are still left with $3420.00 and a customer acquisition cost of only $10 per customer.

Now this is a basic example and only covered a one time basic window cleaning with no extra services. But in reality, providing you did a good job and provided quality customer service, you have probably just gained a customer for life, who will more than likely have you back out in six months to do their windows again. Also this example does not cover any referrals this new customer may send your way. I have found that many of my customers send me an average of 3 to 5 new referrals each year and if you offer an incentive for them to refer you new customers that number rises dramatically.

Now imagine if you did this month after month after month…How many new customers would you gain? How many referrals would those customers send you? How much money would you be making if you started taking Massive Action?

The above example is the exact same method of massive action to create the massive income my business now generates. Obviously as my income grew I outsourced my flyer distribution and branched out into other forms of advertising and marketing to further grow my business. But it all started out with the simple commitment to take massive action. It worked for me and I promise it will work for you.

I like the idea, and I’ve used it myself. It works, however, the conservative numbers you’ve used is actually a pretty accurate success rate.
If you get a 6-10% call return on a flyer, please email me your trick. I would even pay for it!
